Turtle Odyssey

Description

Join us on our eco-friendly turtle tour in the pristine destination Akumal, which means “Place of the Turtle” in the Mayan language. Your journey begins with an educational briefing, highlighting the importance of marine conservation and the specific measures taken to protect sea turtles in the area. Your marine biologist guide will provide insights into the local ecosystem, emphasizing the delicate balance that sustains marine life and the role turtles play in maintaining the health of the oceans.

Equipped with your snorkeling gear, you will spend an hour snorkeling around the seagrass corridors where the green turtles spend their time, quietly grazing on the seagrass beds. We will also meet a supporting cast of marine creatures along the way; birds, fish, squids and octopus and corals just to name a few!! The tour group practices a “look but don’t touch” approach, respecting the turtles’ space and minimizing any potential stress to these magnificent creatures. 

Back on the beach we will eat our healthy and delicious picnic as we discuss local conservation efforts and how the tour contributes to local initiatives. You learn about community-based projects aimed at preserving turtle nesting sites and reducing plastic pollution. We also have a surprise activity for the kiddies!! 

As the tour comes to an end, you leave with a profound appreciation for the beauty of marine life and a sense of satisfaction in having participated in an eco-friendly experience that prioritizes the well-being of the turtles and their habitat. Swimming with turtles on a sustainable tour becomes not just a recreational activity but a meaningful contribution to marine conservation efforts.

This excursion is carried out in collaboration with CONANP-trained guides and in a private group, therefore we avoid the stress and chaos of the big crowds, both on the turtles and guests. We also go at your pace, as we understand that not everyone swims at the same pace, and you also get to see as much as possible during your snorkel-TURT-LY AWESOME!
